Kai O'Donnell, a forward for the North Queensland Cowboys, is generating buzz about a potential return to the Leigh Leopards.
Coach Adrian Lam has openly conveyed his enthusiasm for securing a deal with O'Donnell.
According to reports from Love Rugby League, initial arrangements were in motion for an immediate transfer, but due to new opportunities available within the Cowboys' NRL lineup and the looming deadline for the Super League's transfer window, it appears this move may be postponed until 2027.
The Super League clubs are required to finalize their 2026 rosters by August 21, restricting any player signings after this date.
The recent acquisition of Jack Ashworth by the Leopards has also cast uncertainty on O'Donnell's chances of an early move before the upcoming season.
Nonetheless, Lam is prepared to pursue the deal at the appropriate moment.
"The question has been asked: would we be interested in bringing Kai to Super League, and that's on Kai," Lam stated, as noted by Love Rugby League.
"If he is going to head back to the UK, then we're certainly a club that would be interested. He broke a lot of hearts with the fans and players when he left, and he's a player we would love back.
"But I presume that's in the future and now potentially not this week. Having said that, I know Kai played for North Queensland this week, and they're in the eight, I believe; I think his focus will be on that rather than his future immediately, but if we find out anything further this week, we'll let you know."
