Mitchell Barnett Wins Second State of Origin Title

Barnett Origin winner for second time in three years

Mitchell Barnett, co-captain of the New Zealand Warriors, has secured his second State of Origin win in three years.

In a thrilling match at Suncorp Stadium, the 32-year-old played 38 minutes, contributing to New South Wales' stunning 30-12 victory over Queensland.

Barnett previously made his Origin debut at the same venue, where the Blues won 14-4, clinching the 2024 series 2-1.

In last night's game, he started strong, came off after 22 minutes, and returned for a crucial late 16-minute effort.

He recorded 74 metres from 12 runs, two tackle breaks, 26 successful tackles, and made no errors or penalties.

Throughout the series, Barnett missed just one tackle, making 17 tackles during the Origin II loss and scoring his first Origin try.

In total, he has made 124 tackles with only two misses across five Origin matches.

While Barnett celebrated, club teammate Kurt Capewell, who played 50 minutes, was left disappointed by the Maroons' defeat.
