The Melbourne Storm has announced that a majority stake in the sole Victorian club in the NRL has been sold to Swedish investment firm EQT for an estimated $150 million.

Pending final approval from the ARLC, the club revealed on Wednesday that EQT will join its ownership group on the Board of Directors.

Matt Tripp will continue as chairman, while Justin Rodski, Craig Bellamy, and Frank Ponissi will retain their roles as CEO, head coach, and football director, respectively.

"We conducted a thorough process to find the right partner to help us to continue driving the club forward and are pleased to be able to do so with EQT joining the ownership group," Tripp stated.

"EQT brings with it some incredible credentials and the partnership will only be of benefit to the club - we are proudly ambitious and have hopes for continued growth to keep Melbourne Storm at the top of Australian sport long into the future."

Established in Sweden in 1994, EQT oversees roughly $400 billion in global assets and has a significant footprint in professional sports.

EQT serves as a global sports partner for the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) and the Great Britain SailGP Team, and it owns IMG Academy, a leader in athlete development and education.

It was also a prominent early investor in Sportradar, a company focused on sports data, odds, and betting technology, which went public in 2021.
