Peter Lang, a journalist from Penrith, has called it "disrespectful" to assume that Blaize Talagi will lose his position with the Panthers when Jett Cleary arrives. Reports indicate that the Warriors have finalized the release of the younger Cleary, allowing him to return to Penrith in 2027.
Though he was contracted with the Warriors until the end of 2027, Jett requested an early release to play for his father, Ivan, before he exits as Panthers coach. His brother, Nathan, is also set to be a free agent at the end of 2027, presenting a potential final opportunity for all three to unite at the same club.
Jett initially played his junior football with Penrith but signed a three-year deal with the Warriors in 2025 to carve out his own path. However, the Warriors have significant depth in the halves, and Jett is still waiting for his first-grade debut. With Luke Metcalf, Te Maire Martin, and Tanah Boyd sidelined this week, the Warriors opted for Luke Hanson instead of Cleary.
Given the situation, Jett may find better chances of first-grade play at Penrith, especially since Talagi was recently dropped, along with Jack Cogger, who may not be a long-term solution. Jett's return to the club has raised speculation about Talagi's future, despite him being under contract for another year. On Wednesday, Lang from The Western Weekender stated, "That's disrespectful to both Blaize and the club, not to mention untrue."
Lang, who is well-versed in Panthers matters, explored the reasons for Jett's return but concluded, "He just wants to legitimately come back to Penrith and be coached by his father and play alongside his brother." He emphasized the significance of family over accolades in sports.
The Panthers aim to secure Nathan's signature before he becomes a free agent on November 1, while already signing Paul Alamoti, Isaiah Papali'i, and Casey McLean. They face losses with Brian To'o (PNG), Scott Sorensen (Perth Bears), and Liam Henry (Perth Bears) departing. Talagi, Isaah Yeo, Liam Martin, Moses Leota, and Mitch Kenny are all set to be off-contract by the end of 2027.
