Soni Luke, a former hooker for the Penrith Panthers, has found new life in the NRL by signing a Top 30 contract with the North Queensland Cowboys for the upcoming 2026 season.

The Tongan international was one of the players released by Penrith at the end of the last season but has now been given a fresh opportunity in Townsville following an impressive performance at the 2025 Pacific Championships.

At 29 years old, Luke had initially signed a NSW Cup contract with the South Sydney Rabbitohs for this season and was actively training with their reserve-grade team throughout the offseason.

However, the Cowboys acted swiftly to enhance their hooker options, providing Luke a spot in their Top 30, as reported by Fox Sports.

During his four seasons with the Panthers, Luke made 26 appearances in first-grade matches while contributing to the club's successful run.

Though his chances were limited due to Penrith's strong player lineup, he consistently demonstrated his reliability when needed, bringing valuable experience to North Queensland's roster.

Luke is anticipated to be the primary backup to current hooker Reed Mahoney, adding both depth and competition to a crucial position as the Cowboys prepare for the new season.
