Round 9 promises to deliver a significant surge of talent for the Newcastle Knights, as Kalyn Ponga, Greg Marzhew, Bradman Best, and Tyson Frizell are all anticipated to make their returns.
Following a promising beginning under Justin Holbrook, the Knights have recently suffered from a series of injuries.
Dylan Brown, who also faced injury issues, has returned but hasn't been able to turn the team's fortunes around alone, with a disheartening 44-12 defeat to the Penrith Panthers on Sunday.
This marked the Knights' third consecutive loss, following lackluster performances against the Sydney Roosters and Wests Tigers after a robust four-win and one-loss start to the season.
What's particularly alarming is the team has conceded 124 points over the past three weeks. Holbrook, while not seeking to make excuses, recognized the significance of having the four players back as they gear up to face the high-performing South Sydney Rabbitohs at home next Sunday.
"From the left edge that played in Round 1 we didn't have anyone in that position today, so we're confident maybe having them all back next week," Holbrook stated during his post-match address.
"It makes a huge difference for four players all alongside each other to play together, get used to each other and get the combinations, which we worked hard in pre-season to mix guys around, so they would be OK with it.
"But it's hard when you're playing good sides and then you're not hanging onto the ball yourselves. It's very hard to trouble them."
The Panthers, currently sitting atop the ladder, jumped ahead quickly in the match against Newcastle, with Dylan Edwards netting a remarkable hat-trick within just eight minutes of play.
