Damien Cook has made an unexpected decision regarding his contract.

The St George Illawarra Dragons' halfback has announced plans to leave the club at the conclusion of 2026, setting his sights on the English Super League.

Previously, Cook was engaged in negotiations with the Dragons, but he had to pause discussions after the club implemented a contract freeze following a difficult start to the season, which culminated in the dismissal of Shane Flanagan after seven consecutive losses.

At 34 years old, Cook intends to conclude his playing career in the Super League, while also striving to reach a significant milestone of over 250 appearances in the NRL.

Currently, he stands at 248 games, having spent the majority of his career with the Rabbitohs before returning to his original club, the Dragons, last season.

The Dragons are experiencing a challenging start to the season, which continued on Anzac Day; they suffered their eighth consecutive defeat in a demoralizing loss to the Sydney Roosters.

As of now, the club has not yet confirmed these developments.
