The Brisbane Broncos are initiating a thorough review of Michael Maguire's coaching following a significant decline from champions to a team struggling to escape the bottom four.
Last year, under Maguire, the Broncos ended a 19-year premiership drought, but the current 2026 season has seen them drop to 14th on the NRL ladder, with only three wins separating them from last place.
This review will assess all facets of the club's football operations, including Maguire's role, similar to the last coaching evaluation that led to Kevin Walters' dismissal in 2024 after a comparable downturn.
However, Broncos chairman Karl Morris has quickly dismissed rumors that Maguire might face a similar fate, stating the club's desire for the premiership-winning coach to remain long-term.
"Michael is contracted for next year, and I will say this - we want him to be the long-term coach... He will be coaching, 100 per cent," Morris expressed to Code Sports.
"Not only next year, but the year after and the year after that. We're backing Michael. He's done a wonderful job. He's brought a premiership to the Broncos. That's the view."
"I've not had one director (of the board); I've not had one person raise a single issue."
"There has not been one conversation, not even a skerrick of a conversation, that he won't be the long-term coach."
