Warriors Face Setback as Star Winger Requires Surgery

The Warriors face a significant setback as star winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak is slated for surgery after fracturing his collarbone during a match against South Sydney.

Watene-Zelezniak sustained the injury in the first half of the game, where it was initially thought he had an AC joint issue in his shoulder.

However, coach Andrew Webster confirmed on Newstalk ZB Weekend Sport on Sunday that it is indeed a broken collarbone, and surgery is planned for Monday.

Despite the severity of the injury, Webster has not ruled out the possibility of Watene-Zelezniak returning for the finals, keeping hope alive for his season.

Amazingly, he managed to return for the second half, even scoring a try before being forced to leave the game after just five minutes.

This try was scored with his left hand, something Webster noted as unusual since he had never seen his winger score that way before.

The injury adds to the Warriors' growing list of casualties as they strive to maintain their position at the top of the NRL ladder as finals approach.

Luke Metcalf is out with a hamstring issue but is optimistic about a finals return, while Jackson Ford is also eager to make a comeback following a pectoral injury.

The Warriors will welcome Te Maire Martin back next round after his hamstring injury, while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad will return for the final regular-season match after serving a suspension.
