Dylan Walker, who is set to leave the Parramatta Eels, has expressed his frustrations regarding recent contract negotiations, stating he is unhappy about not extending his NRL career beyond 2026.
The 31-year-old forward recently inked a three-year contract with the Leeds Rhinos in the English Super League, with the transfer being officially announced on Monday.
By the time he makes the move to England, he will have accumulated two seasons with the Eels, bringing along a wealth of experience from his 268 NRL appearances, which include stints at the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Manly Sea Eagles, New Zealand Warriors, and the Eels.
In addition, Walker has represented Australia in four Tests and participated in two State of Origin matches for New South Wales.
While speaking to AAP, he noted his desire to remain with the Eels and mentioned discussions with the newly formed Perth Bears before ultimately deciding on the move to England.
Regarding his situation, Walker remarked, "It's disappointing to not get one here, but I've got to make a grown-up decision and they (the Eels) have got to make a decision, it's a business."
He added, "I had conversations (with Perth), but they weren't keen, and a lot of people weren't keen, to be fair."
Walker concluded, "It's a young man's game now. I think everyone's waiting for the next best young thing, which I get, and you get a few nos and you know you're meant to be where you're meant to be and I'm excited."
