Hull FC has been reported as Josh Kerr's likely destination in Super League, where he could join premiership-winning half Daly Cherry-Evans, another Redcliffe junior.
The St George Illawarra Dragons have agreed to release Kerr from the final year of his contract.
He returned to the club in 2026 after two-and-a-half seasons with the Dolphins, appearing in 19 matches for the Dragons.
Kerr made his NRL debut for the Dragons in 2019 and has played 135 NRL games.
Dragons CEO Tim Watsford said Kerr had sought a longer-term opportunity elsewhere.
"Josh approached the club seeking an opportunity to secure a longer-term deal elsewhere, and we agreed to this request," Dragons CEO Tim Watsford said in a Dragons statement.
"Josh has been a terrific clubman and a highly respected teammate throughout his two spells at the Dragons.
"We wish Josh and his family all the very best for the next chapter."
Kerr came through the Melbourne Storm NYC pathways before joining the Dragons in 2017 and becoming a regular in their NSW Cup side.
He has represented the Indigenous All Stars seven times and captained the side in the 2025 fixture.
There was limited hope his release might help the Dragons retain Tyrell Sloan, who signed with Castleford Tigers and finished the season strongly.
Sloan has confirmed he will join Castleford in the Northern Hemisphere, alongside Dragons teammates Damien Cook and Mathew Feagai.
