The Rabbitohs are seeing red over the NRL's latest demand regarding star player Latrell Mitchell, with the club gearing up for a legal battle.

South Sydney has hit back after the NRL shot down their plea to have Mitchell's suspension served this weekend.

Their attempts to let Mitchell hit the field and serve his one-game ban were thwarted, with the NRL insisting on more medical information before making a decision.

The Rabbitohs provided the NRL with opinions from three independent doctors, affirming Mitchell's fitness to play and serve his ban this week.

However, the league is now requesting an independent fitness test, much to the frustration of the club.

Mitchell sat out training with his teammates on Thursday, raising concerns about the need for another test on his foot injury.

Souths CEO Blake Solly expressed their disappointment with the situation, stating that they are exploring legal options if Mitchell is not permitted to serve his ban as intended.

Seeking a special exemption to include Mitchell in the lineup for the upcoming Roosters clash, the Rabbitohs face an uphill battle as securing such a waiver is deemed highly unlikely.

The club remains defiant in their stance as they prepare for a potential legal showdown with the NRL.
