During a recent clash against the Cowboys, Nicho Hynes of the Sharks expressed disappointment over the low attendance, calling it "embarrassing", and urged for solutions to the stadium situation.
The Sharks' match took place at Allianz Stadium, known for its capacity of 42,500, after previous home final prospects at Ocean Protect Stadium ended.
Last year's elimination final against the Roosters was critical, as NRL leadership warned it could be their last home game at that ground.
Andrew Abdo, the former NRL chief executive, indicated that a review of the home finals policy was imminent. The result was a decision to remove Shark Park from the postseason venue list earlier this month.
Reflecting on the match, Hynes noted, "It's a little bit upsetting. It's a bit disappointing and embarrassing there's so many free seats here."
He acknowledged the support from the fans, stating, "I'm not blaming the Sharks fans at all, they turned up and they were really loud."
Hynes remarked that the crowd was around 17,000 and believed the team would have attracted 15,000 at their home ground, noting, "There's only 2,000 more people here."
Frustrated with the ongoing issues, he stated, "Everyone keeps coming up with problems, problems, problems and no solutions. How about give us solutions?"
Hynes concluded by appealing for action regarding their stadium situation, saying, "Upgrade the stadium or give us something we can play at."
