Cameron McInnes is set to part ways with Cronulla Sharks as he approaches the end of the current season, marking the exit of one of the NRL's most formidable competitors.
His contract, which runs until the conclusion of 2026, will not be renewed as the club enters a significant transitional phase with numerous key players out of contract after this year.
Among those players are notable names such as Jesse Ramien, Sione Katoa, Toby Rudolf, and Will Kennedy.
"This will be my final year at the Sharks," McInnes stated to the publication.
According to a report from the Daily Telegraph last week, McInnes will be joining the York City Knights in England to further his rugby league career after previous tenures with the South Sydney Rabbitohs, St George Illawarra Dragons, and the Sharks.
Though there was interest from the Perth Bears, he was unable to finalize an agreement.
"I had some good conversations [with the Bears] but it just didn't transpire in the end," he remarked.
This weekend, McInnes will celebrate a significant milestone by playing his 100th game in the Sharks' colors, an achievement that emphasizes his tenacity and brave spirit, particularly after recovering from two ACL tears in 2021 and 2022, along with various other injuries faced along the way.
On Friday night, the Sharks will face the formidable Sea Eagles, who have been on a winning streak, clinching three consecutive victories and seven out of eight since Kieran Foran took the helm as head coach.
