Former Manly Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold has announced an unexpected transition in his coaching career after being dismissed following a rocky start to the season.
In a recent appearance on Channel 7's Agenda Setters: Rugby League, Seibold disclosed that he has joined the Collingwood Magpies in the AFL as part of his new role post-sacking in March.
"The last couple of weeks, just been sort of doing a little bit of work for Collingwood there," Seibold shared during the discussion.
"And I know the head coach (Craig McRae) really well. So I've been down there a couple of times and I'm just going to do a little small role there for the rest of the AFL season."
Craig McRae has been at the helm of the Magpies since 2021, and after a successful premiership win in 2023, he secured an extension through to the end of the 2028 season.
This marks not Seibold's first engagement with a competing sport; he had previously worked alongside former Geelong star and AFL coach Aaron Greaves, who had taken on a development role with the Sea Eagles for the 2026 season.
Greaves contributed four years in a senior performance role at Carlton before being recruited by the Northern Beaches club.
According to reports from 7News, Seibold maintained regular communication with Greaves late last year to explore improvement strategies and discuss challenges across their sports.
Additionally, Seibold has built relationships with figures such as A-League coach John Aloisi and Australian cricket coach Andrew McDonald during his coaching journey.
