The Canberra Raiders face a significant setback as star forward Natty Nicholson will be sidelined for up to 12 weeks due to an ankle injury and fibula fracture sustained in last weekend's loss to Canterbury.

According to reports from au.news.yahoo.com, the Raiders announced that Nicholson will require surgery to address a syndesmosis injury.

Since joining from Warrington in the Super League during the off-season, the 21-year-old back-rower has excelled, scoring five tries in nine games and becoming a key player alongside Hudson Young in the Raiders' formidable back-row.

Despite their strong start to the season with a 7-3 record, aspirations for the NRL premiership are now clouded by this blow.

The Raiders previously held a commanding 20-0 lead against the Bulldogs, only to lose 32-20.

In response to Nicholson's injury, Zac Hosking is expected to step into the starting role, having previously filled in at various positions due to Nicholson's presence.

In other news, the Newcastle Knights announced the signing of Marcus D'Acre, a standout from the Las Vegas combine.

The Canadian player was one of four overall winners selected from 50 prospective players invited to showcase their skills during the NRL's opening round in 2025.
