Coaching can appear deceptively simple!
Just look at Kieran Foran of the Manly Sea Eagles and Liam Finn of the Huddersfield Giants, two coaches from opposite corners of the globe who each took charge for less than a week following the sacking of their predecessors.
It certainly makes me feel my age when two current head coaches were once players I coached myself.
I had the pleasure of working with Foran at Manly and with Finn during the 2008 World Cup while he played for Ireland!
In Foran's situation, the decision to name him interim coach was both quick and clear-cut.
After Seibold's dismissal, Foran was addressing his team at 7:30 a.m. the following Sunday.
On the other side of the world, Finn faced a different set of circumstances.
With just a week before their next game, he hadn't even been publicly named caretaker coach, as Director of Rugby Andy Kelly held the press conference, creating expectations that Kelly would lead.
Both media and fans were taken aback when Finn, not Kelly, took over on game day.
Foran likely felt optimistic about the upcoming match against the Dolphins, as it appeared to be a potential victory for the Sea Eagles.
In stark contrast, Finn's Giants were facing a challenging road ahead against Wigan, who were performing strongly.
The Sea Eagles had struggled in their prior games, losing at home, once regarded as a stronghold.
Huddersfield was riddled with injuries, making their trip to Wigan daunting.
However, they upset the odds by defeating the Wigan Warriors 34-16, dazzling everyone by scoring six tries, a marked improvement from their previous five-game total of just eight.
This was reminiscent of a triumphant Dragons squad beating the Panthers.
Meanwhile, the Manly Sea Eagles showcased their strength with a commanding victory over the Dolphins, racking up an impressive 52 points in a game that boasted a total of 70.
