Sydney Roosters winger Mark Nawaqanitawase has expressed his interest in potentially returning to rugby league after completing his current contract in rugby union.

The talented player is set to conclude his two-year stint in the NRL this season as he aims for a Rugby World Cup spot with the Wallabies, with his contract with Rugby Australia extending until mid-2028.

This isn't the first occasion the Roosters have aimed to bring back former players, as they are also monitoring the situations of Joseph Suaalii and Joseph Manu, both of whom are currently involved in rugby union after their time at the Roosters.

In anticipation of these moves, the Roosters secured Nawaqanitawase's services, while also signing Reuben Garrick for 2027. It's rumored that they may acquire Murray Taulagi from the North Queensland Cowboys. However, the potential retirement of Daniel Tupou, and possibly James Tedesco in the coming years, could create a need for depth in their backline again.

While attending a media event at Blues camp, where he prepares for his second state match and is also included in the Australian squad for the 2025 Ashes in England, Nawaqanitawase hinted that the allure of State of Origin might motivate a return to rugby league.

"I love him [Nick Politis], he's a good man," he stated in a recent media session.

"It's the same as what I told him, it's too far away to tell right now but always grateful to him and the Roosters for their love and support - continued love and support."

"We'll see what happens, it's a long time away."

"It [Origin] always has been [a great concept], it has been part of my life for a while and to be here and feel it, it's very enticing. But it's a long way away. We'll see."
