North Queensland Cowboys and Queensland Maroons forward Reuben Cotter is facing a two-match suspension just ahead of the 2025 State of Origin series opener.

According to reports from zerotackle.com, Cotter has been charged by the Match Review Committee (MRC) with a Grade 2 Careless High Tackle for his hit on Marata Niukore.

As the club's co-captain and a former Wally Lewis Medallist, Cotter is likely to take the early guilty plea, which would result in him missing matches against the Penrith Panthers and Manly Sea Eagles.

If he contests the charge and is found guilty, the suspension could extend to three games.

In a related development, South Sydney Rabbitohs interim-captain Tevita Tatola has also been charged with a Grade 1 Careless High Tackle but will only incur a fine ranging from $1,000 to $1,500.
