Kane Evans Joins Roosters Amid Challenges

The Sydney Roosters have welcomed Kane Evans to their coaching staff as an assistant for the NSW Cup team.

Evans joins head coach Brett Morris to provide guidance to the reserve grade side, especially following his recent struggles with homelessness and mental health.

In a poignant interview with Nine's 100% Footy earlier this June, he shared his challenges with sexuality, substance abuse, and financial difficulties that plagued him at the end of his playing career.

The rugby league community has shown immense support for Evans since this heartfelt interview became public.

"I saw him the other day at training wearing all the gear. He loves it, he was glad to feel a part of something again, and it was nice to see him back," remarked a community member.

Evans has also garnered support from former head coach Trent Robinson, who spoke about their close relationship during the interview.

Robinson coached Evans during the initial four years of his NRL career with the Roosters and even covered personal expenses to help him find his footing again.

"He called me just to let me know [that] the Roosters is still my home, and that they've got my back in whatever I'm facing," Evans recounted on 100% Footy.

"'Robbo', out of his own money, paid four weeks of my rent, because I had just got into a place that week," he added.
