Brisbane Broncos veteran Ben Hunt has expressed his desire to continue playing for another season while aiming for the soon-to-be-vacant halfback position at the team.
Hunt, who returned to the Broncos last year after a stint with the St George Illawarra Dragons, has versatile experience as a utility player, including in the halfback role. He is under contract until the end of 2026.
Although there was speculation about him potentially retiring alongside fellow veteran Adam Reynolds, Hunt has clarified his intention to keep competing.
In an interview with News Corp, the 360-game NRL player shared that discussions about his future are currently taking place.
"We're in the process of negotiating another year," Hunt told the publication.
"The club came to me and asked if I'd like to go around again and I told them I'm definitely keen. Hopefully in the next couple of weeks we've got something sorted out."
Jonah Pezet was previously considered a frontrunner for the long-term halfback position at the club.
Pezet, now injured while with the Parramatta Eels, transferred from the Melbourne Storm but will soon transition to a long-term deal with the Broncos starting in 2027.
With Ezra Mam secured in the number six jersey for the future, alongside Reece Walsh and various other players, Hunt may find himself in a backup role if he continues with the team.
