Emerging Star Set for Transition to Bears

It appears that Canterbury's setback may turn into a significant opportunity for Perth Bears, and the timing could hardly be better.

The Daily Telegraph has revealed that Jope Rauqe, one of the promising young wingers from the Bulldogs, is likely to join the Bears under the guidance of Mal Meninga, with a two-year contract commencing next season.

However, there's an obstacle to navigate, as Rauqe remains under contract with the Bulldogs until the conclusion of the 2027 season.

This potential Bears player stands at an impressive 6'6", displaying a blend of speed, power, and size that is remarkable for someone his age.

He effectively utilizes his physique to gain post-contact meters, showcasing an aggressive show-and-go style complemented by a formidable fend.

On Thursday night, Rauqe is slated to start on the wing for NSW's under-19 team against Queensland at North Sydney Oval, offering Bears supporters their first genuine glimpse of a player whose reputation is rapidly ascending within the lower grades.

He has already donned the Fijian jersey last year, and made his mark by scoring in Canterbury's pre-season trial against the North Queensland Cowboys prior to the season kickoff, showcasing his ability to advance through the Bulldogs' academy system by skipping age groups.

This young talent marks the third acquisition for the Bears from rival clubs, joining Jasais Ah Kee from St George Illawarra Dragons and Mason Barber from the North Queensland Cowboys.
