Eels' Russell Fined for Dangerous Tackle

Eels Outside Back Sanctioned by MRC

Sean Russell, an outside back for the Parramatta Eels, has received disciplinary action from the NRL's match review committee following a dangerous tackle on Tallis Duncan during Thursday night's match against the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Russell, set to join the Perth Bears next season, has been charged with Grade 1 dangerous contact but will avoid suspension.

This low grading permits Russell only a monetary penalty. Because this is his second offense on his record, he faces a fine of $1,800 if he submits an early guilty plea, or $2,500 if he chooses to contest the charge and is unsuccessful.

The incident occurred as the Rabbitohs scored a try on the right flank through Tallis Duncan, pushing the score to 20-12 approximately 12 minutes into the second half.

Duncan secured the try after breaking through the defense, aided by a well-timed short pass from Jye Gray, but was caught in the face by Russell's outstretched boot as he dove to score.

Although Russell was not penalized with a sin bin on the field, extending his leg was deemed an intentional act, leading to a penalty and an additional shot at goal.

Latrell Siegwalt missed the attempt from the initial try position but successfully converted the following opportunity right in front of the posts.

Russell has until midday (AEST) on Saturday to decide on his plea.
