The South Sydney Rabbitohs faced a heartbreaking defeat as their season came to a close on Friday night.
In a critical moment during the match, trailing 10-6, the Rabbitohs had a vital try denied, leading to questions surrounding the Bunker decision.
Referee Ashley Klein initially awarded the try, but the decision was reviewed, and Senior Review Official Chris Butler ultimately overturned it.
"We're looking at the intent of Jermaine. He's looking to come across (the) field," Butler stated from The Bunker.
Butler explained that the first contact involved the arm and the back of the shoulder, indicating the player's intent was to make a tackle rather than to strip the ball.
"This played at speed, there's never a change at stripping the ball," he added, emphasizing the nature of the contact.
According to Butler, it was "incidental contact with the arm and a loose carry from Alex Johnston which is a knock-on."
The controversial ruling has left the Rabbitohs and their supporters contemplating the decision as a significant turning point in the match.
