The St George Illawarra Dragons have reportedly informed Moses Suli that he will not be offered a new contract beyond the conclusion of 2027.
The club, which had implemented a contract freeze for its players prior to the dismissal of coach Shane Flanagan, managed to end their 15-match losing streak, including 11 consecutive losses this year, with a victory over the Brisbane Broncos on Sunday.
As one of several players set to be off-contract at the end of next year, Suli has the option to stay for an additional season. However, the Dragons will not impede his departure if he finds a new team.
Interestingly, Suli has already been made available to two other clubs, both of which chose not to pursue him.
His management is actively seeking opportunities for Suli with competing teams and is eager for him to transition away from the joint-venture by year's end.
The strong centre has shown inconsistent performance over the past 18 months, while the Dragons are undergoing a significant rebuild, having secured the signings of Scott Drinkwater, Luke Metcalf, Phillip Sami, Keaon Koloamatangi, and Connor Watson for the upcoming season.
Upon Sami's arrival, he could potentially fill either a wing or centre role, with Valentine Holmes, Setu Tu, and David Fale all contracted through 2027. The club also needs to reposition Clint Gutherson due to Drinkwater's entrance as the new fullback.
The performance of Holmes and Gutherson, both nearing the twilight of their careers, has sparked some debate, though both excelled in the Dragons' crucial win over the Broncos.
If Suli departs, it could provide the Dragons with additional funds to acquire another outside back and prioritize extensions and improvements for their top junior talent.
