Brigginshaw Steps Down as Broncos Captain

Brisbane Broncos celebrate with the NRLW premiership trophy after beating the Sydney Roosters in the grand final.

In a poignant move for her final NRLW season, Ali Brigginshaw has stepped down from the captaincy of the Brisbane Broncos and shared her thoughts on having a meeting room named in her honour.

A celebrated figure in women's rugby, Brigginshaw has guided the Broncos to four NRLW premierships across 56 match appearances.

"I've made the decision to step down as captain in my final year," Brigginshaw stated.

"I've been thinking about it for the last couple of months, and I feel like the time is right.

"I've done so many amazing things here, but there's a next group of leaders that I want to see come through, and I want to be able to support them in my last year.

"For me, captaincy has been a huge part of my life, but there's also a part of me that wants to have a bit of fun and release the pressure a little bit."

At the Broncos' Clive Berghofer Centre, she expressed her commitment to continue mentoring both established and upcoming leaders.

She also discussed the club's choice to rename a meeting room in her honour, a space that previously celebrated former men's captain and three-time premiership winner, Gorden Tallis.

Ali Brigginshaw looks on during the 2025 NRLW grand final.
