Cowboys coach Todd Payten is set to seek clarification from the NRL following a controversial try that contributed to their 38-20 defeat against the Warriors.
As the match approached its final ten minutes, the Warriors extended their lead when Adam Pompey capitalized on a loose ball, following what appeared to be a knock-on by Cowboys fullback Scott Drinkwater in an aerial duel with Taine Tuaupiki.
Yet, a slow-motion review revealed that the Warriors fullback had initially knocked the ball on, directly leading to the incident with Drinkwater, even though the try was ultimately allowed to stand.
"That will go against the Warriors … Instead, it has been confirmed," commented a visibly confused Matt Russell during the broadcast.
"That's off Tuaupiki," remarked Steve Roach, further expressing confusion over the decision.
Payten's frustration is palpable, as he plans to navigate the proper channels to address what he perceives as a significant oversight by the officials.
With the stakes high and with a controversial decision affecting the game's outcome, both fans and players alike will be eager to see how the league responds.
The call has certainly fueled discussion among supporters and pundits, highlighting the ever-present challenges of officiating in the high-stakes environment of NRL.
