Leaving the Titans at the end of 2026, Verrills is part of a significant roster overhaul that includes Jaimin Jolliffe, who is heading to the Super League, and Phillip Sami, who is joining the St George Illawarra Dragons. He is joined in free agency by Allan Fitzgibbon and Tukimihia Simpkins.
Initially joining the Titans in 2023, Verrills was anticipated to be a solution to the club's needs at hooker after a successful stint with the Sydney Roosters, where he secured a premiership.
Over the 2024 and 2025 seasons, he played 45 matches for the Titans, yet his position diminished in 2026, leading to the non-renewal of his contract.
His partner publicly criticized the Titans via social media, reflecting potential tumult behind his departure.
Reports from Love Rugby League indicate that the St Helens Saints are keen on signing him, although compliance with the Super League's overseas player regulations remains uncertain.
If they proceed with Verrills, it might result in Jackson Hastings leaving the club, as the Saints are also courting Bulldogs half Sean O'Sullivan.
Additional Super League teams have shown interest in Verrills, though their names have not been disclosed.
Earlier this year, there were talks between Verrills and Canterbury Bulldogs' director of football, Phil Gould, but those discussions were halted after being leaked.
