Wayne Bennett is set to provide guidance to Queensland's newest State of Origin coach, Darius Boyd, ahead of the 2027 series.
The Rabbitohs and Queensland Rugby League have finalized Bennett's informal advisory role, aimed at supporting Boyd as he transitions into senior coaching.
Bennett's extensive experience, having previously served as Queensland's coach, will be pivotal for Boyd, who previously managed the state's under-19 program successfully.
This decision follows the departure of Billy Slater, who led Queensland for five years, winning three series but falling short in two home deciders.
Boyd's appointment was the result of careful consideration of multiple candidates for the head coach position.
Throughout his playing career, Boyd was a longtime representative for Queensland, having played under Bennett at the Broncos, Dragons, and Knights.
While Boyd has not finalized his coaching staff, his predecessors included assistants Ben Te'o and Matt Ballin, who served under Slater during a series that ended with Queensland losing despite a win in Sydney.
