The Brisbane Broncos have made headlines on a busy Friday by confirming the re-signing of Preston Riki just moments after Va'a Semu's renewal.
Both forwards are set to continue their journey with the Broncos, with Semu's contract extending until the end of 2028, while Riki has signed a two-year deal that keeps him at Red Hill through to the same year.
The announcement regarding Semu was made official by the club at 3:20 PM (AEST), with Riki's confirmation following a mere 12 minutes later at 3:32 PM (AEST).
Riki was in a position to negotiate with competing teams since November 1, yet he chose to remain with the Broncos, where he has experienced his most successful first-grade season to date, participating in three matches and starting in Rounds 10 and 11 amid an injury crisis.
Originally from New Zealand, the now 28-year-old only began playing rugby league in his final year of secondary school, working his way up through the ranks at the Penrith Panthers before joining coach Michael Maguire's side this year.
"I've loved every minute of being here," Riki said.
"I'm grateful to the playing group and to 'Madge' for putting trust in me and giving me the confidence to become the best player I can be.
"I'm thankful he gave me an opportunity to come to the Broncos and spend the next two years here.
"I hope I can repay the club for what they've given me."
