Broncos hit by Piakura injury ahead of clash

Broncos rocked by brutal new NRL blow amid Reece Walsh and Payne Haas injuries

The Broncos have been hit with another devastating blow as second-rower Brendan Piakura suffered an ankle injury during training on Tuesday.

Piakura will miss Friday night's showdown against the Cowboys and will undergo scans to assess the damage.

Former Dragons forward Jaiyden Hunt stepped into the back row during Tuesday's training session after Piakura's injury.

He is expected to take Piakura's place in the starting lineup.

This injury adds to the woes of last year's grand finalists, who are already without prop Payne Haas (knee) and fullback Reece Walsh (facial fracture) for the foreseeable future.

Despite the setbacks, there was a glimmer of good news at Tuesday's training session as skipper Adam Reynolds completed another solid session and was seen honing his goalkicking skills.

Reynolds is likely to be named in the starting lineup after missing the previous round due to a medial collateral ligament strain.

Broncos winger Jesse Arthars expressed confidence in Reynolds's healing abilities and leadership on the field.

"Reyno is a quick healer and we really missed him in the last game," Arthars said.

"Having him on the field boosts the team's morale, but we trust in whoever steps up to fill the positions in his absence."
