The Brisbane Broncos' halfback situation has just become significantly more complicated.
As reported by Pete Cadel from The Courier Mail, Ben Hunt is set to sign a one-year extension with the Broncos, transforming the competition for the No.7 jersey from a two-horse race into a three-player contest, igniting discussions across the rugby league community.
With Adam Reynolds planning to retire after the conclusion of the 2026 season, the Broncos seemed to have clear plans for their halves lineup, having secured Jonah Pezet on a three-year contract beginning in 2027 after he decided against continuing with the Storm and opted for a one-year deal with the Eels.
Additionally, Thomas Duffy has joined the squad from the North Queensland Cowboys and has demonstrated significant potential.
Now, Hunt aims to step back into contention, expressing a strong desire to play a starting role rather than settle for a position on the bench.
On Wednesday night's NRL 360, Pete Badel delivered the news while highlighting potential financial implications for Brisbane.
"The word that I've got is he'll [Ben Hunt] be doing a new deal with the Broncos in the coming weeks," Badel stated on NRL 360.
"This is massive. He was expected to retire at the end of the season, a bit like Adam Reynolds."
"Reynolds caught the Broncos off guard last year when he said he wanted to go for another season. They had to juggle the salary cap to accommodate him."
