Brisbane Broncos and NSW Blues front-rower Payne Haas is poised for "one of the richest players in the history of the game" as his club works to secure a new contract amid interest from rival teams.
According to zerotackle.com, Haas is widely regarded as one of the best props in the sport, having won multiple Paul Morgan medals (Broncos Player of the Year) and several Dally M Prop of the Year awards.
He was named the 2019 Dally M Rookie of the Year, has played in a Grand Final, and represented both Australia and the NSW Blues.
Entering his prime, Haas is set to become a major free agent when his contract expires at the end of the 2026 NRL season, making him available for negotiation with rival teams starting November 1.
Currently one of the highest-paid forwards in the league, his next contract could see him surpass Kalyn Ponga and Nathan Cleary as the competition's highest-paid player.
The Sydney Morning Herald's Michael Chammas mentioned on "100% Footy" that the Perth Bears (the NRL's newest franchise) will target Haas, while his current club seeks to retain him, potentially making him one of rugby league's highest-paid players in history.
