In a stunning declaration, a Super League bigwig has thrown down the gauntlet on four-time premiership victor Nathan Cleary amid whispers of a possible move abroad to the UK.
The NRL powerhouse, who recently added a fourth premiership to his name, made a cameo appearance at the Super League Grand Final to cheer on his mate Tyrone May as his Hull KR team fell short against Wigan.
"I'm not packing my bags for a move over here anytime soon," Cleary coolly dismissed the transfer talk during the match.
Despite Cleary's status as the cream of the crop in the rugby league world, Wigan CEO Kris Radlinski raised eyebrows with his comments on SEN radio, suggesting that even a player of Cleary's caliber might struggle to crack the lineup of the reigning Super League champions.
Radlinski implied that Cleary, a player who any team would kill to have on their roster, may not even make the cut for the top 17 in Wigan's squad.
