Wests Tigers and Rabbitohs: A Season of Unwanted NRL History

Wests Tigers join South Sydney in making embarrassing unwanted NRL history

The Wests Tigers have had one of the worst seasons in their history, capping it off with an unwanted stat.

They finished the season with just four wins and a for-and-against of -290, resulting in them receiving the wooden spoon.

What makes this even more embarrassing is that they also went down the ladder the following year, becoming the first team in NRL history to achieve this feat.

The last team to go down the ladder after winning the wooden spoon was the Western Suburbs Magpies in the ARL era.

The Tigers' poor form has led fans to joke that finishing last is in their DNA.

With coach Tim Sheens leaving and Benji Marshall facing a mammoth task as the new coach, turning the club around will be a major challenge.

The Rabbitohs have also made an embarrassing NRL-era first, with their capitulation in 2023.
