Changes are afoot at the Wests Tigers as assistant coach John Morris has left the club following Benji Marshall's appointment as head coach.
Morris, who had a significant playing career with the Tigers from 2007 to 2009, had returned for the 2024 season after departing from the Rabbitohs due to a falling out with coach Jason Demetriou.
His exit, occurring three years into a four-year contract, has created an opening in the assistant coaching team, raising speculation about veteran Shane Flanagan potentially joining the staff.
Marshall expressed gratitude for Morris's contributions, stating, "Bomber's experience and professionalism has been invaluable to me and the team, especially as a new Head Coach. I will always be thankful and grateful for his support."
Morris has openly expressed his aspiration for a second head coach position, having previously led the Sharks as interim head coach starting in 2019 and then in a full-time capacity.
His tenure with the Sharks ended abruptly in 2021 after just five matches, despite him having guided the team to the finals in both 2019 and 2020.
Moreover, Morris's contract with the Tigers had a release clause for opportunities in senior coaching elsewhere, enabling his departure.
