Leigh Leopards winger Umyla Hanley has been making a name for himself in recent weeks, stepping up for his team amidst injury setbacks.

After biding his time, the young talent now faces a showdown with his former club, Wigan Warriors, in what promises to be a thrilling match-up known as 'The Battle of the Borough' - catch it live on Sky Sports Action on Thursday from 7.30pm (8pm kick-off).

In the rugby heartland of Wigan, the Hanley name is synonymous with on-field prowess, with Umyla following in the footsteps of his father Ellery.

However, it's the son who is currently grabbing headlines, donning the leopard print of Leigh Leopards rather than the cherry and white of Wigan Warriors.

Despite a slow start to the season, the 22-year-old has certainly hit his stride, notching up an impressive six tries in his last four appearances, including back-to-back hat-tricks.

While his stellar performance couldn't secure a win against Salford Red Devils, with Leigh falling 32-22, coach Adrian Lam had nothing but praise for Hanley's efforts.

"I'm very proud of Umyla," Lam commented after the winger's standout display.

It was Lam who first gave Hanley his shot at Super League glory back in 2020, when the young talent made his debut at just 18 years old.

Though the result wasn't in their favor that day, Hanley's potential was evident, and now he's proving himself on the big stage with Leigh.

As the anticipation builds for the upcoming clash against Wigan, fans can expect Hanley to continue making his mark and showcasing his talent in what is sure to be a thrilling reunion with his former club.
