In a fairytale ending, Sam Tomkins brings down the curtain on his career against his boyhood club, Wigan Warriors.
Just six months ago, Tomkins was ready to retire after multiple knee specialists advised him to do so.
However, he decided to undergo an operation to continue playing for Catalans Dragons.
Minutes into his first game of the season, he realized there was a problem and contemplated retirement again.
But the club insisted they wanted him for important games, which humbled him.
Tomkins and the Catalans medical staff devised a plan to manage his pain and limit his appearances to eight or nine games.
However, he has played in 22 matches this season, defying expectations.
Now, Catalans are one win away from winning the Super League title, with Tomkins facing his beloved Wigan Warriors in the final.
Tomkins reflects on the irony of the situation, saying, "Funny how things turn out, isn't it?"
