Reece Walsh and James Tedesco took turns at fullback in training, giving Kangaroos coach Kevin Walters a choice to make over the No. 1 spot.
Code Sports reported on Sunday that Walsh was favoured to retain the role after leading Australia to its 2025 Ashes victory.
Tedesco's case was strengthened by a standout season with the Roosters, leading their premiership push and earning the Clive Churchill Medal in their grand final win.
But 9News reporter Danny Weidler said he saw the 33-year-old at training with a bandage over his knee, raising the prospect that a niggling injury could affect the selection decision.
"I went to training for a little look... look, they had James Tedesco on the sideline with his knee in a bandage," Weidler said on the Big Sports Breakfast on Monday.
"So maybe it was just a bit of wear and tear after the grand final. Teddy I think had a very good week of celebrating.
"And then now we are seeing that Reece is firmly back in the frame, they both trained at fullback yesterday and took turns so Kevvie has got to make up his mind."
