Penrith Yeo extension faces cap scrutiny

Isaah Yeo’s contract extension hits roadblock

Penrith are not concerned rival clubs could persuade Nathan Cleary to leave, despite just one contract-extension discussion with him in September.

Chief executive Matt Cameron said early talks with Cleary's manager were encouraging.

"We have had very preliminary conversations with Nathan's manager (George Mimis) which have been positive thus far," Panthers chief executive Matt Cameron told the publication.

Meanwhile, Isaah Yeo has agreed to a three-year extension that would keep him at Penrith through the end of 2030.

The NRL salary cap auditor has temporarily withheld official approval, Code Sports reported.

Yeo is also expected to take up a role with the club after retiring, a factor the NRL examines to ensure deals meet fair-market-value rules.

The extension could take Yeo beyond 350 games for Penrith and extend his record as the club's most-capped player.

He played in this year's finals with a fully torn pectoral muscle as Penrith pursued a return to the Grand Final after missing out in 2025.

Yeo has held leadership and captaincy roles with the NSW Blues and Australia.
