In a clash reminiscent of an old school Rugby League showdown, the Melbourne Storm emerged victorious over the Roosters in a fiery Preliminary Final battle.

The Storm's star players worked together in perfect harmony, reminiscent of a well-oiled machine, to secure their spot in the NRL grand final, marking their return to the pinnacle of the sport since 2020.

Despite an early setback with forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona cooling his heels in the sin bin, the Storm stormed ahead to a commanding 22-6 lead at half-time.

The Roosters, however, unleashed their fighting spirit after the break, narrowing the gap to just six points with 30 minutes remaining.

But it was Jahrome Hughes' hat-trick try that put an end to any hopes of a Roosters comeback, sealing the deal for the hosts in a crushing 48-18 victory.

Hughes displayed masterful skill, carving through the Roosters' defence like a hot knife through butter.

Meanwhile, Melbourne's fullback Ryan Papenhuyzen lit up the field with his dazzling speed in the first half, only for Cameron Munster to take the reins in the second, leading the Storm's attack and notching up a late brace to send the raucous crowd of 29,213 at AAMI Park into a frenzy.

The Roosters put up a valiant fight, embodying the never-say-die spirit of Rugby League, but ultimately fell short of matching their opponents' relentless pace and determination.

It was a classic tale of grit and glory on the Rugby League battlefield, with the Storm emerging victorious and earning their place in the grand final.
