St Helens stalwart Tara Jones has decided to hang up her boots and pursue a career as a full-time referee with the Rugby Football League.
Known as the leading appearance maker for the St Helens Women's team, Jones made history back in April by becoming the first woman to officiate a senior RFL men's fixture.
The 28-year-old hooker, who has earned 14 caps for England, showcased her skills as a referee by taking charge of the Betfred League One clash between Oldham and Cornwall at Boundary Park.
Additionally, Jones has also served as a touch-judge in various Betfred Super League matches, proving her versatility on the field.
Before her team's disappointing defeat to York Valkyrie in the Women's Super League Grand Final, Jones informed her fellow Saints players about her retirement decision.
Her captain summed up her achievements by stating, "She's had a stellar season as a match official, breaking barriers by officiating men's League One games and assisting in men's Super League matches."
As Tara Jones transitions into her new role as a referee, fans can catch the thrilling Super League Grand Final showdown between Wigan Warriors and Hull KR live on Sky Sports this Saturday at 5pm.
This marks a new chapter for the St Helens legend, who will now be making the tough calls from the sidelines in the world of Rugby League.
