South Sydney's under-fire halfback Lachlan Ilias has been given the boot, with critics already taking shots at the decision.

Ilias, known as the punching bag of the Rabbitohs, has been given the green light to start negotiating with other clubs after South Sydney snatched up St Helens' Lewis Dodd from the Super League.

Despite being tied to Souths until 2025, Ilias found himself dropped for Dean Hawkins before suffering a season-ending leg injury in reserve grade.

With Dodd now in the picture, his future at the club hangs in the balance.

"The signing of Lewis Dodd from St Helens has taken everyone by surprise, but it's a huge acquisition for the Bunnies," exclaimed Braith Anasta on NRL 360.

While some see this move as bold and ambitious, Dean Ritchie is quick to point out the potential risks of bringing in a young Super League talent at just 22 years old.

But as they say in the world of rugby league, it's all part of the game.

And for Ilias, it's just another bump on the road to success.
