Smith's own connection to the competition dates back to his father Brian's coaching days at Hull and Bradford, where he got a taste of the Cup's magic.
"The Challenge Cup has always held a special place in my heart," Smith shared with BBC Radio Leeds.
"I have vivid memories of attending games when my dad was at Hull back in the late 80s.
