Rabbitohs Rookie Injured in Match Collision

Dayne Jennings, a rookie for the South Sydney Rabbitohs, will be sidelined for about a week following a horrific leg laceration sustained during the team's win against the Newcastle Knights on Sunday.

The incident occurred within the first 15 minutes of the match when Jennings collided with Knights star Dom Young, resulting in a severe cut to his left thigh.

While attempting to execute a cover tackle on Young, the Newcastle winger's boot sliced through Jennings' leg.

The severity of the injury was evident, necessitating 35 stitches to properly close the gash.

Fortunately, the young player is not expected to be absent for a prolonged period, as he will be rested to reduce the chances of infection.

Jennings made his first-grade debut in Round 17, stepping in for seasoned winger Alex Johnston, who is currently recovering from a calf injury.

Sunday marked only Jennings' third appearance in the NRL, yet he has already begun to show why the Rabbitohs hold high hopes for him.

His impressive skills under high balls and his notable strength in carries have caught attention, especially given his limited experience.

This progress gives South Sydney an additional long-term option on the wing, especially with Johnston due to make his return in Round 21.
