Former NRL player James Graham has made serious accusations against Tino Fa'asuamaleaui, claiming he "stayed down" to earn a penalty that led to Jacob Preston's four-week suspension, ruling him out of State of Origin.
Preston was penalized for a crusher tackle on Fa'asuamaleaui during a match between the Bulldogs and Titans.
His unsuccessful appeal at the NRL judiciary increased his suspension from three to four games, making him ineligible for the first Origin game and complicating his chances for the second, as the Bulldogs have a bye in Round 13.
Preston's lawyer, Paul McGirr, highlighted that "diving" is prevalent in the NRL, as players attempt to gain penalties from such tackles.
He noted, "I'm not suggesting this with Tino, but some players certainly appear to be lying down a bit in order to milk a penalty," emphasizing that some players act dramatically only to return to play shortly after.
Graham, however, did not hold back in his criticism.
On 'The Bye Round' podcast before the judiciary, he expressed disbelief over Fa'asuamaleaui's actions.
"I was calling this game on radio and I couldn't believe Tino was allowed to stay down to get that penalty," he stated.
"I don't agree with that.
This is an absolute farce.
I nearly swore on radio."
These allegations and incidents have sparked discussion about the integrity of the game and how penalties like these can influence player suspensions and team selections.
