Kalyn Ponga's Reaction to Tom Dearden's Injury
Kalyn Ponga delivered an impressive performance in a commanding victory over the St George Illawarra Dragons on Saturday.
Following the match, questions arose regarding Queensland Maroons and Cowboys halfback Tom Dearden, who sustained an ankle injury during the team's recent loss to the Eels.
Ponga's response upon learning the duration of Dearden's potential absence was striking and succinct, encapsulating Queensland's sentiment regarding the injury's implications.
"S***... f***," he expressed.
"That's pretty bad," Ponga elaborated after absorbing the news.
"I feel for Tommy. He's been playing good footy. I know how hard he works, how much he loves his footy, how much he loves Queensland; he's going to be shattered. I think Queensland's going to be shattered."
"Obviously, I want to play good footy next week. My focus is getting that right and just see what happens after that."
Ponga excelled on the field, racking up seven line breaks and nearly matching that number in tackle busts, while amassing 176 metres in the decisive 44-10 triumph.
Given his outstanding performance on Saturday, discussions have arisen about whether Ponga will retain the fullback position for the Maroons or if Reece Walsh will take his place.
