Rating Every NRL Club's Chance of Landing Payne Haas
Brisbane Broncos representative star Payne Haas has publicly stated that he prefers to remain with the club, declaring, "Brisbane is home for Haas. That much is fairly clear."
However, the landscape is shifting. Financial considerations are becoming increasingly significant, especially with the emergence of the Saudi Arabian-backed Rugby 360 competition, which has reportedly been in discussions with Haas's management. As a result, what initially seemed to be a secure situation for Haas in Brisbane is becoming more uncertain with each passing week.
Currently, Haas is under contract until the end of 2026, and the Broncos hold exclusive negotiating rights until November 1 of this year. After that date, he can entertain offers from any interested parties.
The timing is critical for the Broncos, as they cannot focus on finalizing a deal while still competing in the tournament. Once the season concludes, they will have only a few weeks to negotiate with Haas.
There is no doubt that Haas is the premier prop in the game, and if negotiations reach November 1 without a deal in place, teams with the financial means and a need for leadership in their forward packs will undoubtedly be eager to make a competitive offer for him.
