The Penrith Panthers have recently seen several of their standout players, including Stephen Crichton, Matt Burton, and Viliame Kikau, transition to the Canterbury Bulldogs.
However, there's one star player the Bulldogs weren't able to recruit.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the Canberra Raiders have successfully signed Daine Laurie to a multi-year contract, despite strong interest from the Bulldogs.
The versatile utility from the Panthers engaged in discussions with both teams in recent weeks and chose to join Ricky Stuart in Canberra after carefully evaluating his options for the next phase of his career.
Laurie will enhance Canberra's depth across various positions, able to play as a fullback, wing, centre, five-eighth, or halfback. He is regarded as an ideal utility to strengthen the Raiders' roster.
This development also raises speculation that young fullback Chevy Stewart might be leaving Canberra sooner rather than later, as Laurie's addition further establishes his utility value within the NRL.
With 76 NRL games to his credit, Laurie brings a wealth of versatility and experience to the Raiders.
