New Zealand's route to the Rugby League World Cup final will run through either Samoa or Tonga, but winger Ronaldo Mulitalo may miss the semi-final next Saturday in Newcastle.
The judiciary found his 52nd-minute shoulder charge on Fiji's Ronald Philitoga careless and issued a grade-two offence on Sunday.
Mulitalo was sent off during New Zealand's 78-0 win on the Gold Coast on Saturday. He can return for the final if the Kiwis advance, provided he accepts an early plea and serves a one-game suspension.
His absence would cost New Zealand a winger who has scored three tries and been active under the high ball.
The tackle sparked a confrontation between the teams, during which Fiji halfback Brandon Wakeham punched Mulitalo in the head and was also sent off.
Wakeham received a one-game ban, though Fiji's elimination means it will have no effect on their World Cup campaign.
